In 2014, the Government of Alberta set a target to reduce methane emissions by 45% by 2025. The Government deployed several tools, including regulatory requirements, market-based programs, and investments in technology and innovation, and worked in close collaboration with the industry. Three years ahead of schedule, Alberta reached this target in 2022. What’s next? How will the Government of Alberta continue this momentum, and how can other jurisdictions apply this effective strategy? This panel will profile Canadian policy and industry leadership and share tangible examples of how policy frameworks, technological advancements, and strategic investments have led to significant methane reductions.
