Technology Showcase | Ekona Power: Pilot Deployment of Ekona’s PMP Solution for Clean Hydrogen Production

Date:
Friday, November 15
Time (AZT):
02:30 PM
Event Summary:
This project will demonstrate a pilot-scale methane pyrolysis solution that delivers decarbonized hydrogen at costs comparable to conventional steam methane reforming (SMR) systems, reducing GHG emissions. Ekona’s pulsed-methane pyrolysis (PMP) solution converts natural gas into hydrogen and solid carbon, significantly reducing CO2 emissions. The PMP reactor utilizes combustion and high-speed gas dynamics to dissociate methane, addressing carbon fouling issues. It integrates easily with existing industrial systems and doesn’t depend on carbon capture or renewable energy. The project will test the PMP reactor’s performance, evaluate multi-core setups, and develop a 1-tonne-per-day pilot plant in collaboration with Cenovus Energy and TransAlta.
